We’re hiring!

Social Media Assistant (Part-Time)

Start Your Next Adventure

The Shona Project is a multi-award-winning national charity, founded in 2016, dedicated to educating, empowering, and inspiring young Irish girls to become strong, confident, and curious women. Through school workshops, online articles and videos, and our nationally recognised SHINE Festival, we've reached thousands of girls directly. We are building a movement of empowered young people, and we're looking for a creative content maker to help us tell that story.

We are also pleased to share that our work is expanding with MARK, a new programme of workshops to address the needs of teenage boys nationally.

About the role

This is an entry-level role. If you've never had a "real" content job but you're already making great stuff on your own time, we want to hear from you. This is also a  role for someone who lives and breathes short-form video. Working closely with the community team, you'll create the TikToks, Reels and social-first content that puts The Shona Project in front of the girls we exist for, and their wider ecosystem of parents, teachers and supporters.

We're looking for someone with a strong instinct for what works on social media, who can turn a workshop, an event, a stat or an idea into something people actually stop and watch. We also want someone who has an ear to the ground and is able to react to relevant news/topics and convey information in a way that resonates with young people.

Key responsibilities

  • Short-form video: Concept, shoot and edit TikTok videos and Instagram Reels for The Shona Project and our MARK programme, in line with our tone and brand.

  • Content capture: Gather footage and photography at workshops, events and shoots, including SHINE Festival each October, and turn it around quickly for social.

  • Graphics and static posts: Create simple, on-brand graphics in Canva for feed posts, stories and campaign moments.

  • Trend spotting: Keep an eye on what's landing on social with our audience and bring us ideas we haven't thought of.

  • Publishing support: Schedule and post content, flag anything that's performing unusually well or badly so we can act on it.

  • Collaboration: Work with the community team on a shared content calendar so your time each week is focused on the right priorities.

Qualifications and skills

You don't need a background in content or comms. You need an eye for what works and the drive to make things. If that's you, the rest we can teach.

  • Video editing: You've edited videos for TikTok or Instagram, even just for yourself. This is the core of the role.

  • Design: Proficiency in Canva or similar. You don't need to be a designer, but your work should look clean and on-brand.

  • Social fluency: A genuine feel for what performs on TikTok and Instagram, and an interest in the platforms beyond the job.

  • Communication: Clear written communication and the ability to speak to a young audience

  • Passion: An understanding of the issues we work on and a real interest in advancing gender equality and supporting young people.

What we offer

  • Meaningful impact: Your work goes directly in front of hundreds of thousands of young people every month.

  • Creative ownership: Real freedom to try things, with a small team that says yes more often than no.

  • Portfolio and profile: National campaigns, a recognisable brand, and work you can point to.

  • Mentoring and feedback: Real guidance from our team as you build your skills, not just a folder of tasks.
