The truth hurts honey!

Much as our friends and family tell us we are wonderful perfect humans, the truth is that many of us could do with hearing a little home truth every now and again. When thinking about who you are, the type of person you want to become and how you want people to remember you, there’s a couple of pointers that might sting a little, but are the truth, pure and simple.

So brace yourselves, this will only hurt a little…

1.  You are only the star of your own movie.

Much as it feels like world revolves around you, it doesn’t. People have their own crap going on, and to everyone else, their crap is more important and urgent than yours. Therefore when you’re having a moment of drama, don’t expect everyone else to jump to attention. People will help when they can, and then get back to their own drama. Its how life works.

2. You are not the only one to ever experience pain.

Is your heart broken? Yeah it sucks. How do we know that? Because our hearts have all been broken too. Pain is part of life, and no one is immune. Its how you deal with it that counts.

3. Money won’t make you happy

Okay we know everyone says this, but its the absolute truth. Money might relieve your stress slightly, but your level of happiness is not directly related to how much money you have. See that sun shining outside? Go lie under a tree, watch the leaves dance in the breeze, and feel the warmth of the sun on your face. That level of contentment cannot be bought my friend. That shit is free.

4. You do not deserve a man who will treat you like a princess.

Waiting for a rich guy to come and buy you handbags? Oh no honey child. You deserve a man who will treat you like an equal, someone you can build a life with, someone who knows you’re not perfect, but loves you for being a work in progress. You will need to take care of and be there for each other, that’s what true love is.

5. Most good things in life will scare the bejaysus out of you.

Amazing opportunities will come your way if you work hard. But each change, even the good ones, will require you moving out of your comfort zone. That comfort zone is cushty, but boring. You will only achieve your potential if you take risks. If you waste your talent, you only have yourself to blame. Feel the fear and do it anyway.

6. Not everyone likes you.

People are like ice cream flavours. Some love mint choc chip, and it makes others gag. Mint choc chip is not good or bad, its a matter of taste. Stop trying to suit everyone, or you’ll end up vanilla. And the world has enough vanilla.

7. To succeed, you need to WERK

Talent and luck might be your friends, but if you sit waiting for it all to fall into place, you’ll end up with haemorrhoids. Work like your life depends on it. Because it does.

8. Your parents are not your maids.

The more your parents do for you, the less you will be able to cope with real life. Pick up your own damn socks.

9. Be thankful for what you have.

Be grateful for the little things, sunny days, lie-ins, hugs, and Ovie from Love Island. It may not be perfect, but your life is good. Stop focusing on the negative and BE GRATEFUL.
