Do you ever find yourself in a funk or a mood and have no idea how to get out of it? Well, we have asked our Shona Ambassador and health psychology expert Orna Murray to talk about how movement can unlock way more energy and help you to feel more positive and open.

Body & Energy

Moving your body (walking, dancing, roller skating, kicking a ball around) does so many things for your mind and body. When you are exercising your heart pumps oxygen and nutrients all around your body – which gives you more energy! This is why sometimes when you feel tired the best thing to do is to move your body to wake it up.

Exercising can also improve your sleep, which will lead to more energy the next day too!

Mood & Mind

Moving your body can leave you feeling happier, more relaxed and less anxious – who doesn’t want that?! Hormones, endorphins and neurotransmitters (the body’s feel-good chemicals) released during and after exercise can have a positive impact on how you feel and your mood.

So if you have been feeling stressed, anxious or just a bit frazzled after the lockdowns, rather than spending the whole evening with Netflix, take advantage of the longer evenings and get outdoors!

Friendships & Fun

Sport and exercise is always more fun with someone – so as lockdown restrictions lift, make sure you bring a buddy along with you to training or out for a walk/run in the evening. Physical activity is meant to be fun and enjoyable, giving you an opportunity to be outside and do something that makes you feel good.

If you are going back to training or if you have decided to take up a new activity – go you. It can be a bit nerve-racking in the beginning but remember – you CAN do hard things!

Exercise and physical activity are great ways to feel better, boost your health and have fun!
