Anyone who reads our site knows how utterly in love we are with Michelle Obama. We miss her so much it hurts.

Michelle has always been a voice for women and girls, and really encourages us all to take an active role in our own futures, and to build communities in which we support and love each other, as opposed to always thinking about ourselves and what we feel the world owes us.

At a recent event on Colorado, she said, “I am a strong woman because of other strong women. You don’t mother alone, you don’t grandparent alone, you don’t struggle alone. You find your community.” She added, “We forget how strong we are. We’re never reminded. We’re taught subtly and subliminally that our voices are unimportant. Those are the kind of messages that stifle girls’ voices.”

Finally she talked about how important it is for girls to have positive forces and voices in their lives. “Tell her every day she is smart and capable and lift her up. For so many people, the role models they follow are right in their backyard. It’s their mothers, teachers, siblings, and their fathers and the men around them who every day can lift them up. Don’t underestimate the power of day-to-day motivation and inspiration in a girl’s life.”

Oh Michelle, keep being you, you beautiful creature….
